What is OpenAthens?
OpenAthens is a single sign-on (SSO) service which we will use for authentication to our library resources. Implementation is currently in progress, with an anticipated 'Go Live' date in late December, 2024. OpenAthens will eventually fully replace our current system, EZ Proxy, by spring of 2025.
Will I Still Access the Library the Same Way?
Yes! You will still log in to Moodle to access the library website and FASTsearch to search for resources as you normally would.
What is Different?
In situations where you need to be authenticated (such as if your session times out, if you follow a saved link, etc.) you will see a new log-in screen asking for your full Fielding email address and password. This will be a change from our prior authentication system in which you only entered a username.
The URLs associated with resources in our library will also change. Right now, they include information about our proxy server, and after we make the switch they'll include information about OpenAthens.
While the systems run concurrently, you might see both log-in screens popping up at times, depending on the link you followed. Whenever you see a log-in screen, just make to sure to follow the prompt exactly. If it says to enter your email address, use that, and if it says to enter just your username, use that.
Please review the OpenAthens transition checklist and help materials on the following pages of this guide to ensure you are ready for this change.
