Faculty Resources: Library Instruction

Library Instruction for Students & Faculty

Your Fielding librarians are pleased to provide customized library instruction to you or your students on a variety of topics. Presentations, handouts, LibGuides, and more can be created and tailored to support your specific needs.

We offer instruction via web conference, or are happy to work with you to integrate instruction into a particular course or assignment in Moodle. We also regularly schedule library presentations for Pre-NSOs and NSOs, as well as during national sessions.

Library Instruction & Information Literacy

The Association of College and Research Libraries (ACRL) states that information literacy "forms the basis of lifelong learning. It is common to all disciplines, all learning environments, and to all levels of education."

Information literacy is strongly connected to fluency with information technology.  As a distributed learning environment with a 100% digital library, Fielding's students must learn to navigate complex information systems containing overwhelming amounts of content.

Library instruction can assist our students in further developing their information and technological fluency to be successful not only during their time at Fielding, but throughout their lives.  As ACRL explains: "The sheer abundance of information will not in itself create a more informed citizenry without a complementary cluster of abilities necessary to use information effectively."
